Maharadja Sweets is a prolific, enigmatic and dynamic musician, poet and composer whose massive, varied body of work remains largely unreleased. In his dozen available-to-the-world works, he's experimented with electronic music, indie rock, harsh noise, and folksong. Outside of the public eye Sweets has dove deep into the worlds of cigar box guitar, Indian ragas, MIDI baroque music, and an as-of-yet-unreleased folk punk masterwork from his teen years.

In this unclassifiable project, Still Life, Sweets channels his obsession with guitar innovator Bo Diddley's masterful manipulation of the "rhythm guitar" paradigm. All the musical accompaniment on Still Life is one electric guitar, no overdubs. However - through a tremendous amount of knob-tweaking experimentation-Sweets renders his guitar sound unrecognizable as a guitar.

With songs and poems stitched together from folk rhymes, haiku, the Biblical books of the prophets and other such sources - Sweets deftly carves the musical equivalent of abstract sculptures. The emphasis is on texture, sound, rhythm... and bounce.

The album title Still Life evokes many things - the negative space when the music retracts like a retreating oceanic wave, the Sabbath as this type of negative space, our pandemic era as such a negative space, and most importantly - the reality that....

A still life is still life.
